Hawkes Bay Racing
Fready Cougar, (Perfectly Ready ex Miss Toffelees) preparing for the first two-year-old race of the new season at Wanganui next Saturday, was an easy winner of his 400-metre heat at today’s Hastings jumpouts while Hawke’s Bay Cat recorded the quickest time among the 750-metre heats with a strong win.
The jumpouts were held up against the running rail on the course proper, where the ground was a slow-9 at the start but bordering on heavy for the final few heats after a couple of heavy showers.
Fready Cougar proved far too slick for his three rivals in the first of two 400-metre heats, racing clear for a seven length win in a time of 22.6s. He is a colt by Perfectly Ready out of the capable racemare Miss Toffelees, trained at Hastings by John Bary.
The colt was unplaced in a 600-metre trial at Otaki last week but ran a bit greenly that day so Bary decided to give him another jumpout to ready him for Saturday’s 800-metre event at Wanganui.
